Iris Lyrics by the Goo Goo Dolls

“Iris” is undoubtedly one of the Goo Goo Dolls’ most famous songs. Although it was originally made to feature in City of Angels (1998), the track went on to become one of their most commercially successful and enduring releases, also attaining a kind of pop culture status.

It’s essentially a love song that reveals just how sincerely and totally in love with someone the main singer feels; all he wants is for her, yes, to see him, because once she does everything will be alright! There are also some connotations showing that despite this strong desire, he also fears that if her gaze or love ever became too deep, he’ll shrivel up and die! The poetic lyrics no doubt helped radio stations choose “Iris” to play; admittedly, so did fans.

Iris Lyrics

And I’d give up forever to touch you
‘Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to Heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t wanna go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it’s over
I just don’t wanna miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
